ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE Disclosed herein is a marine propulsion device comprising a transom bracket adapted for mounting to the transom of a boat, a propulsion unit, a pivot connecting the propulsion unit to the transom bracket for tilt movement about a tilt axis which is horizontal when the transom bracket is boat mounted, a cylinder- piston assembly pivotally connected to the transom bracket about a first axis which is parallel to the tilt axis and movable about the first axis in accordance with tilt movement of said propulsion unit about the tilt axis, a variable resistor fixed on the transom bracket and including a wiper having an arm adapted to engage the cylinder-piston assembly, a spring biasing the arm into engagement with the cylinder- piston assembly, and a remote device electrically connected to the variable resistor for indicating the angle of tilt of the propulsion unit.
