ABSTRACT A marker light for an aircraft landing zone comprising a three-dimensional tapered structure with an inclined light emitting side-wall including an array of electroluminescent light strips generating visible radiation with an ascending direction of propagation toward a plurality of azimuths. An electronic control circuit momentarily actuates individual light strips of the array at different instants in time to produce a rapid succession of light pulses originating at different locations on the inclined side-wall of the tapered structure, whereby the latter becomes visible from different horizontal directions. The invention also provides a luminous color-code angle of descent indicator, comprising electroluminescent light sources for projecting chromatically distinct visible radiation at different vertical angles providing in an approach area of the landing zone a light-emission field color-stratified in a vertical direction, whereby establishing for an observer in an aircraft moving toward the landing zone along a descending path a dependence of the color appearance of the indicator on the aircraft angle of descent.
