ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A marking device comprises a liquid marking ink container. The ink container includes a body within which there is disposed a valve controlling the flow of liquid through the device. A valve actuating member communicates with the valve and the end of the body. The body includes a base projecting from the end and a non- porous member projecting from the base. The non-porous member has associated therewith a porous applicator member. Upon application of the device to the surface of an article, the valve is opened by pressure transferred from the valve actuating member thereby saturating the porous member and leaving an image of the shape of the predetermined non-porous member on the surface of the article. The non-porous member can have a predetermined profile or shape to produce a predetermined shape or mark on the article.
