In order to produce on the table of a diamond gemstone, an information mark which is invisible to the naked eye using a x10 loupe, an ultraviolet laser having a wavelength of 193 nm is used in association with a mask to irradiate the surface of the stone at a fluence of less than 2 J/cm2 per pulse and with not fewer than 100 pulses, in the presence of air which reacts with the diamond and causes the mark to be formed without any darkening which is visible when viewing using a microscope.
Afin de produire sur la table d'une pierre précieuse de diamant (7), une marque qui soit invisible à l'oeil nu au moyen d'une loupe à grossissement x10, on utilise un laser ultraviolet (1) ayant une longueur d'onde de 193 nm en association avec un masque (2) de façon à irradier la surface de la pierre (7) avec une fluence inférieure à 2 J/cm<2> par impulsion, le nombre des impulsions étant au moins égal à 100, en présence d'air qui réagit avec le diamant (7) et qui permet la formation d'une marque sans qu'aucun assombrissement soit visible à l'examen au moyen d'un microscope.
