A processor is provided for use with a marking material cartridge the processor having configurable logic for configuring the processor for use with an associated printing device. A print cartridge includes a housing defining a chamber for storing a marking material therein and a circuit on the housing. The circuit includes a memory portion storing data related to the marking material, an interface portion in operative communication with the associated printing device for communicating therewith, and a configurable execution unit including a network of gates which are programmable by first set of instruction primitives received into the circuit to define a first set of operation instructions executable by the execution unit during operation of the print cartridge of the associated printing device.
L'invention concerne un processeur à utiliser avec une cartouche renfermant un matériau de marquage, le processeur possédant une logique configurable permettant de configurer le processeur à utiliser avec un dispositif d'impression associé. Une cartouche d'impression comprend un boîtier définissant une chambre permettant de stocker un matériau de marquage dans celle-ci et un circuit sur le boîtier. Le circuit comprend une partie de mémoire stockant des données relatives au matériau de marquage, une partie d'interface en communication fonctionnelle avec le dispositif d'impression associé afin de communiquer avec celui-ci et une unité d'exécution configurable comprenant un réseau de portes pouvant être programmées au moyen d'un premier ensemble de primitives d'instructions reçu dans le circuit, afin de définir un premier ensemble d'instructions de fonctionnement exécutables par l'unité d'exécution pendant le fonctionnement de la cartouche d'impression du dispositif d'impression associé. L'invention concerne également un procédé permettant d'adapter une cartouche d'impression à utiliser avec une imprimante et consistant à utiliser un processeur comprenant une logique configurable sur la cartouche d'impression et à configurer la logique configurable du processeur pour une compatibilité fonctionnelle avec l'imprimante. Dans un mode de réalisation, le processeur à logique configurable est un dispositif à logique programmable configuré par ouverture de fusibles de mémoire morte entre les portes logiques renfermées dans le dispositif à logique programmable.
