ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fiber bundle is formed by means of a tapered die through which the fibers are extruded. The die is shaped to form at least one groove in the periphery of the bundle. The fiber bundle with the groove at its periphery is provided with a sheath and is then dipped into a liquid urethane prepolymer at one end to impregnate a portion of the fiber bundle with the prepolymer and leaving a portion at the opposite end unimpregnated. The fiber bundle is then placed in the atmosphere for a time period, during which the reactions among constituents in the prepolymer and the volatilization of solvent produce a set urethane nib portion with capillary passages therein, and an air channel where the groove was formed. This nib portion of the fiber bundle thus produced is machined to form a nib point. After machining, a predetermined amount of ink is filled in the fiber bundle and then an end plug is pressed into the opposite end of sheath from the nib portion. The unimpregnated portion of the fiber bundle forms an ink reservoir integral with the nib portion of the resulting marking pen.
