A masking tape (1) for a long section is provided with a base material (11) and an adhesive layer (12), and the tear strength of the base material (11) in the width direction is 220mN/15mm or more. Especially it is preferable that the base material (11) is composed of a material wherein a machining direction is generated during manufacture, the machining direction of the base material (11) is the longitudinal direction of the masking tape (1), and the tear strength of the base material (11) in a direction orthogonally intersecting with the machining direction is 220mN/15mm or more. Such masking tape (1) does not easily generate a tape cut.
