This invention relates to the selection of a crude oil or crude oil blend for the production of high-performing paving asphalt based on molecular composition of the asphalt and of the parent crude oil blend based, at least in part, on high resolution mass spectrometric measurements (Figure 1) and relationships to rheological properties.

L'invention porte sur la sélection d'un pétrole brut ou d'un mélange de pétrole brut destiné à la production de bitume routier de haute performance, sur la base de la composition moléculaire du bitume et du précurseur du pétrole brut ou du mélange de pétrole brut. Cette sélection consiste, du moins en partie, à obtenir des mesures par spectroscopie de masse à haute résolution et à établir des rapports entre les mesures obtenues et des propriétés rhéologiques.
