This invention relates to the use of mass spectrometry for identifying specific colonization factors, such as fimbriae, fibrillae or pili, in a sample of Escherichia coli. The sample is disssolved in 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro- 2-propanol prior to mass spectrometry analysis. This method is useful for tracking infections by differentially identifying the colonization factors produced by specific organisms.
L'invention porte sur l'emploi de la spectroscopie de masse pour identifier des facteurs spécifiques de colonisation tels que les fimbriae, les fibrillae ou les pili dans des échantillons d'Escherichia coli. A cet effet l'échantillon est dissout dans du 1,1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol avant son analyse par spectroscopie de masse. Le procédé s'avère utile pour le dépistage d'infections par identification différentielle des facteurs de colonisation produits par des organismes spécifiques.
