ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A mast base for a wind surfboard adapted to have a mast cardanically fastened thereto. The mast base is releasably latchable in a sleeve or in an aperture within the body of the sailing board or wind surfboard, and includes spring-elastically adjustable latching elements which engage in corresponding recesses in the sleeve or aperture within the wind surfboard. An externally manipulatable adjusting collar is connected to a clamping nut or toggle member to bias the latching elements so as to exert variably selectable latching forces. ws/
