(57) Abstract The invention relates to a material compressing arrangement used in a machine for producing a rigid, elongated member (4) from a binder-moistened loose material (2), comprising a compression section (7) in which binder-moistened loose material is compressed, a heating section (5) in which the compressed material batches a dried, and a conveyer means which causes each of the material batches (2b) compressed in the compression section to pass through the heating section (5). The compression section (7) is operative to compress a leading material batch (2a), as seen in the feed direction, during a short conveying distance to a greater extent than a following, pre-compressed material batch (2b) over a long conveying distance, by pre-compressing with the aid of a screw conveyer (10) and using compressed material batches (2a, 2a') located in the heating section (5) as a compression piston or ram, and to achieve final compression upon movement of these batches towards the compression section by the movable parts (15, 16) of the heating section (5).
