68409-30 ABSTRACT A sensing arrangement is provided for bulk material conveying equipment such as pavers or the like, wherein the sensing arrangement comprises a non-contacting sensor fixedly mounted to the equipment, for sensing the distance between the level of the bulk material and the sensor. The remote location of the sensing device from the bulk material, such as hot asphalt in a paving machine, reduces the requirements of the sensing device to withstand extreme environmental conditions. The sensing device is thus no longer being subject to the heat of the asphalt or to abrasion from the material.
