The subject invention pertains to methods and compositions for protecting feline animals from infection by FIV using immunogens derived from primate immunodeficiency viruses, including HIV and SIV. Methods for vaccinating feline animals with the subject vaccine compositions are described. Feline animals vaccinated according to the methods and compositions of the subject invention exhibit protective humoral and cellular immune responses to FIV when challenged with FIV.

L'invention concerne des méthodes et des compositions permettant de protéger des félins de l'infection par FIV, à l'aide d'immunogènes dérivés de virus de l'immunodéficience primatiale, y compris le VIH et le SIV. L'invention concerne en outre des méthodes de vaccination de félins avec lesdites compositions vaccinales. Les félins vaccinés selon les méthodes et les compositions de l'invention présentent des réponses humorales protectives et des réponses immunitaires à médiation cellulaire au FIV, lorsqu'elles sont confrontées au FIV.
