There is provided a mathematical device or instrument having a body with first and second substantially planer major faces, the body having a generally cruciform configuration with four leg portions extending outwardly from a central point, and a slot formed within each of the leg portions and extending between the major faces from each of the slots extending from the central point and terminating short of a distal end of a respective leg portion, each slot having a width sufficiently large to receive a marking device. The instrument may be used for drawing a cartesian plan and various geometric figures and as well to find the image of a geometric figure which is formed by translation or reflection.
