A mattress cover as claimed in claim 1 is made in such a way that the upper and lower faces differ in that an upper face material with the allergen-proof but water vapour- permeable barrier layer is fitted and a lower face material is merely mite-proof, in order on the one hand to provide effective protection against allergens and on the other to provide good durability with adequate air and water vapour permeability and permit easy cleaning.
