The present invention seeks to address the chronic and worsening problem of mattress management in hospitals by providing a mattress protector to shield a mattress or mattress core from body fluids, the protector not only comprising a shielding cover for the mattress (1) or mattress core but also a detector in an inter or under-layer (2) of the cover to detect body fluid that has passed into or through the cover. The detector may be chemical, with the cover being a transparent cover (3) and the under-layer being absorbent and having a dye that is activated by a body fluid to provide a visual indication of presence of the body fluid. In an alternative embodiment the detector may be an apparatus monitoring electrical conductivity. This suitably uses threads of electrically conductive yarn forming either the warp or weft of a thin flexible under layer of the protective cover (5) and which are linked to a small processor (7) which monitors the electrical conductivity between neighbouring conductive threads in the sensing layer.
En vue de résoudre le problème chronique et qui va en empirant de la gestion des matelas dans les hôpitaux, l'invention concerne une protection de matelas conçue pour protéger le matelas ou l'âme du matelas contre les liquides organiques. Cette protection comprend non seulement une enveloppe de protection pour le matelas (1) ou son âme mais également un détecteur dans une inter ou sous-couche (2) de l'enveloppe qui détecte le liquide organique ayant pénétré dans l'enveloppe ou l'ayant traversé. Ce détecteur peut être chimique, l'enveloppe peut être une enveloppe transparente (3) et la sous-couche est absorbante et comprend un colorant qui est activé par un liquide organique afin qu'une indication visuelle de la présence dudit liquide soit fournie. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, le détecteur peut être un appareil surveillant la conductivité électrique, utilisant de manière appropriée des fils de faisceau électroconducteur formant, soit la trame, soit la chaîne d'une sous-couche mince et souple de l'enveloppe de protection (5) et liés à un petit processeur (7) qui surveille la conductivité électrique entre les fils conducteurs se trouvant dans la couche de détection.
