An adapter is used between a bed foundation and a mattress of the type having an upper set of flexible slats separated by resilient rails from a lower set of flexible slats. The adapter comprises a rigid rectangular border with upright sidewalls and a mattress edge support interiorly along each sidewall. The sidewalls extend above the mattress edge supports to trap the mattress in place on the adapter and the adapter has a recess between the mattress edge supports which allows downward deflection of the lower set of flexible mattress slats into the recess across the adapter.
