A mattress is disclosed having two tops or top panels. The first top is permanently attached to a mattress base and has a peripheral edge portion. The second top is coterminous with the first top and has a peripheral edge portion releasibly attached to the peripheral edge portion of the first top, so that the mattress can be used with or without the second top. An optional removable, intermediate gusset or window panel gives the mattress a pillow top appearance. The second top can be reversible.
