Abstract of the Disclosure Novel maytansinoids of the formula: Image wherein X is H or Cl, and R is Image or -OR3 wherein R1 and R2 may be the same or different, and each is H or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon residue or heterocyclic group, or R1 and R2 may, taken together with the adjacent N atom, form a heterocyclic group, and R3 is a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon residue, have antimitotic, antitumor and antimicrobial activities.
