A fuel cell for generating a current in response to the presence of acetylene in a fluid. The fuel cell comprises first and second gas porous electrode means, and acidic electrolyte means interconnecting the first and second electrode means for facilitating the electrochemical oxidation of the acetylene at the first electrode means and the electrochemical reduction of oxygen in an oxygen-containing gas at the second electrode means so as to generate the current, the first electrode means being a gas porous gold electrode means. L'invention se rapporte à une pile à combustible conçue pour générer un courant en réponse à la présence d'acétylène dans un fluide. Cette pile à combustible comporte un premier et un second organe à effet d'électrode perméable au gaz et un élément à effet d'électrolyte acide interconnectant le premier et le second organe à effet d'électrode de manière à faciliter l'oxydation électrochimique de l'acétylène au niveau du premier organe à effet d'électrode et la réduction électrochimique de l'oxygène dans un gaz contenant de l'oxygène au niveau du second organe à effet d'électrode de manière à générer le courant, ledit premier organe à effet d'électrode étant une électrode en or perméable au gaz.
