A B S T R A C T A means for generating seismic waves in marine seismic exploration operations comprises a plurality of groups of elongate floats that are towed through the water and carry seismic sources. Each group includes a leading float with a rudder and connecting means for connecting the leading float to the towing vessel by means of a flexible cable. Each leading float may include a steering mechanism for controlling the position of the rudder and/ or the connecting means.
