ABSTRACT AN IMPROVED MEANS FOR TERMINATING A TRISTATABLE ELECTRICAL BUS The present invention provides a bus system terminator to ensure that during a tristate condition of a bus system, the bus system is placed into a known state. The bus system terminator should not unduly load the bus system when the bus system is in a non-tristated condition. There is also an enable signal that is present when the bus system is in the tristate condition. The bus system terminator is made up of a plurality of current limiting resistors connected to the bus system, one resistor for each signal in the bus system. A switch or buffer connects the current limiting resistors and a logic generator. The logic generator can be a logic state or the output of a gate. The switch receives the enable signal and in the presence of the enable signal, the switch connects the current limiting resistors to the logic generator, thereby allowing the logic generator, through the current limiting resistors, to place the known logic state onto the bus system.
