Disclosed is a measuring device for measuring the area of a closed curve in which there is provided a body rotating freely along the center of a perpendicular shaft at the state fixed to the ground. For measuring the length, a actuating member sliding horizontally penetrates through the body and is supported thereon. As tracing means for tracing the line of the figure is engaged with the forward end of the actuating member. A rotatation angle of the body is measured in unit of 0.072° by a degree index plate fixed to a fixed shaft, while a moving distance is measured in unit of 0.01 m by a photo-sensor incorporated in the body. As the tracing means traces the line of the figure on the basis of the central point of the body, area or the figure is divided into a triangle whose on base line is joined with that of the neighboring triangle having same angle. The device for measuring two base lines of the triangle and its included angle uses a law of sines.
