Hay bale measuring apparatus utilizes two measuring wheels for measuring the string used by the baler, and indicating the amount of string to a control and display unit. The baler operator sets the desired hay bale size and monitors the baler operation on the display. The control and display unit generates a signal which indicates to the baler when it is time to tie off a bale of hay. The measuring wheel includes a plurality of teeth and is used with an optical beam generator and optical beam detector. String is wrapped once around the wheel and turns the wheel as it is pulled by the baler. As the wheel turns, the teeth interrupt the beam from the beam generator, forming a series of bursts of light. The beam detector generates a burst of current coincident with each burst of light, and sends it to the control and display unit. The conventional bale measuring assembly is completely removed and replaced by a mechanical arm, controlled by the control and display module and capable of moving down or pivoting out of the way of the gear dog used to trigger the tying mechanism.
Cette invention concerne un dispositif de mesure sur botteleuse qui comporte deux galets à mesurer la longueur de broche utilisée par la botteleuse et qui transmet la mesure à un bloc de commande à afficheur. Le conducteur de la botteleuse règle la taille nominale des bottes de foin à constituer et contrôle le bon fonctionnement de la botteleuse sur l'écran d'affichage. Le bloc de commande-contrôle émet un signal qui indique au conducteur le moment de nouer la broche de bottelage. Le galet à mesurer dentelé fonctionne de concert avec un générateur et un détecteur de faisceau lumineux. Un tour de broche est enroulé autour du galet pour le faire tourner à mesure qu'il est entraîné par la botteleuse. Les dents du galets coupent le faisceau lumineux à chaque tour de galet. Le détecteur est ainsi éclairé en rafale et transmet une rafale correspondante de signaux électriques au bloc de commande et de contrôle. Le dispositif standard de mesure est enlevé complètement et remplacé par un bras mécanique asservi au bloc de commande-contrôle et monté de manière à pouvoir s'abaisser ou pivoter hors de la trajectoire du crabot de commande du mécanisme d'attache de la broche de bottelage.
