ABSTRACT A bearing assembly with inner and outer races is provided with a built in sensing device for providing a signal representing the rotational speed of one of the races. The sensing device is mounted in or on a carrier such as a housing attached to the normally stationary race. The moving race carries a toothed disc or similar component and the sensing device has an oscillatory circuit which energizes an inductive sensor in close proximity to the disc. The electromagnetic field created by the sensor is influenced or disturbed by the movement of the disc and this is detected by the sensing device to provide the aforesaid signal, which may be of digital or analogue form. - 1 -
