MECHANICAL DEVICE FOR MAINTAINING A DOOR, AND IN PARTICULAR AN AUTOMOBILE DOOR, IN THE OPEN POSITION A B S T R A C T A mechanical device for maintaining a door in an open position, comprising an arm 6 slidable in a guide body 9 provided with shoes capable of spreading apart upon the passage of the arm, and means having a resilient opposing action tending to move the shoes towards each other. According to the invention, the guide body 9 has at least one surface element 18, 19 having a cylin- drical outer shape, mechanically connected to the shoes 13, 14 and radially deformable, and the means having an opposing action are formed by at least one coil spring 16, 17 which is mounted coaxially around and in contact with said surface element 18, 19. A preferred appli- cation of the device is for doors of motor vehicles.
