A device for the synchronous movement of the seat and backrest of a chair uses a first support bracket which at one end thereof is connected to a chair pedestal. A second bracket fastened to the seat is pivotally connected to the other end of the first bracket. A third bracket fastened to the backrest is pivotally connected to the second bracket. Means are provided for guiding the tilt of the third bracket relative to the first and second brackets. The guiding means can also be used to block the common position of the first, second and third brackets. The occupant of a chair can obtain an optimal ergonomic position that eliminates numbness associated with being seated for a long period of time.
