ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a drive for a rotatable mantle roll mounted onto a stationary axle. The mantle is driven by one or more driving gears which are again driven by one or more shafts journalled in a supporting frame located around the stationary-axle end. The driving gear or gears drive an internally toothed gear ring connected to the roll mantle. The improvement lies in that the supporting frame which is supported by rolling or sliding elements is placed inside a shell connected to the mantle or inside the mantle as a sta- tionary unit with its different elements. The supporting frame is coupled by special elements not to rotate so that the said location with the mantle is possible.
