ABSTRACT Disclosed is a mechanical/electrical control device for displacing an item to a desired position, the device including at least one proportional transmitter which is able to be deflected by hand out of a rest position and which produces a deflection signal corresponding to the deflection. Each transmitter is associated with a position signal transmitter connected to be controlled by the deflection signal of the proportional transmitter for producing a position signal for displacing the item. Between each proportional transmitter and the associated position signal transmitter there is an associated arresting device for arresting the deflection signal due to a deflection of the proportional transmitter which occurs in response to the point of reversal before the proportional transmitter is restored to its rest position. The device is useful for displacing a marker on the screen of a picture tube.
