A metal-to-metal seal (40) for a rotary cone rock bit (10) consists of prelapped metal sealing surfaces (47 and 52) formed on opposing seal rings (44 and 49) prior to assembly of the seal rings into seal cavities formed between the rotary cones (28) and their respective journal bearings (32). A first seal ring (44) includes a sealing surface (47) fabricated from a softer metallic material than its opposing second metallic ring (49), and the second ring (49) has more seal surface (52) area than the first ring (44) to accommodate for cone wobble or eccentricities that may occur during operation of the bit in a borehole. The first seal ring (44) is biased toward the second sealing surface (49) by a resilient material (42) that may partially encapsulate the first ring, or be in the form of an encapsulated Belleville spring (342).
