A non-contacting gas seal includes a pair of sealing rings each defining one of a pair of opposed sealing faces, grooves being provided in one of the sealing faces to create a cushion of gas between the sealing faces as one ring rotates relative to the other, at least one of the rings being formed from a silicon carbide-graphite composite material.

La présente invention vise un joint d'étanchéité au gaz sans contact. Ce joint est composé d'une paire d'anneaux d'étanchéité, chacun d'eux formant une des deux surfaces d'étanchéité opposées. Une de ces surfaces est munie de rainures pour créer un coussin de gaz entre les faces d'étanchéité lorsqu'un des deux anneaux tourne sur l'autre. Au moins un des anneaux est fait d'un matériau composite à base de graphite et de carbure de silicium.
