TITLE OF THE INVENTION MECHANICAL GEAR DRIVE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Backlash or play is avoided in a mechanical, self-adjust- ing gear drive having two sets of gears arranged in parallel to each other by one or more torsion springs effective be- tween a driving shaft and a driven shaft. The gear sets form a closed gear train which contains the prestressed torsion spring (12) at any suitable point. After adjust- ment of the prestressing, the spring or springs eliminate any backlash throughout the whole gear train.
