A rack (20) mounted within the housing (12) of a mechanical lock translates. The rack, which has a rectangular cross section, has teeth (22). A toothed pawl (120) pivots within the housing between a locked and unlocked position. The teeth on the pawl engage the rack teeth when the pawl is locked. The pawl has a window (62) that receives a cam (80). The cam has a first surface that engages a surface of the window when the cam is in the locked position. In that position, the cam prevents movement of the pawl teeth away from the teeth on the rack. A second surface of the cam pushes against a different surface of the window when the cam is in the unlocked position. In that position, the cam disengages the pawl teeth from the rack teeth. The window has a chamfered surface to move the pawl to its locked position.
Une crémaillère (20), montée à l'intérieur du boîtier (12) d'une serrure mécanique de manière à pouvoir coulisser, présente une section transversale rectangulaire ainsi que plusieurs dents (22). Un cliquet denté (120) est par ailleurs conçu pour pivoter à l'intérieur dudit boîtier, pour passer d'une position verrouillée à une position déverrouillée, les dents de ce cliquet entrant en contact avec celles de ladite crémaillère une fois ce cliquet verrouillé. De plus, ce cliquet présente une fenêtre (62) destinée à loger une came (80), laquelle comprend une première surface conçue pour entrer en contact avec une surface de cette fenêtre une fois ladite came en position verrouillée. Dans cette position, la came empêche que les dents dudit cliquet se détachent de celles de la crémaillère. Une seconde surface de ladite came exerce une poussée contre une surface différente de ladite fenêtre lorsque la came se trouve en position déverrouillée, position dans laquelle cette came amène les dents du cliquet à se détacher de celles de ladite crémaillère. La fenêtre présente par ailleurs une surface chanfreinée permettant de déplacer le cliquet pour le faire passer en position verrouillée.
