ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An optical switch is disclosed in which a housing has an input receptacle and two output receptacles in a single wall of the housing. Light passes through a collimating lense in the input receptacle to a first triangular prism where it is totally reflected twice back to a converging lense in one of the output receptacles. A second triangular prism is situated adjacent the first triangular prism and, if it is desired that the input light be passed to the other output receptacle instead, the in- put light is passed to the second triangular prism where it is totally reflected twice and passed to a converging lens in the other output receptacle. In order to switch the input light away from the first triangular prism to the second triangular prism a parallelogram prism can be positioned to intercept the incoming light beam. This prism serves to reflect the beam 90° twice to a displaced position in which it impinges on the second triangular prism. The parallelogram prism is secured to a holder which is slidable laterally under the influence of two electro- magnets and, in this way, the parallelogram prism can be moved, as desired, into or out of the path of the incoming light beam.
