Abstract: A mechanical pencil has a barrel and a camming surface mounted for rotation, and for movement forwardly and back- wardly in an axial direction within a predetermined range with respect to the barrel. A slider engages the camming surface which is dimensioned and positioned to move the slider axially in response to rotation of the camming surface. A writing unit having a push type load feed mechanism is fixedly fitted into the front end portion of a support that is fixedly fitted into the front end of the slider. A spring is located coaxially inside the barrel and received by a front end surface of a spring support and a rear end surface of the writing unit.
