"MECHANICAL RING SEAL" ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An annular mechanical ring seal is provided for sealing a pressurized annular space formed between a cylindrical inner member and an outwardly spaced, tubular outer member. The ring seal comprises a relatively thick base ring extending between the members. The base ring seals against the inner cylindrical surface of the outer member. At its inner rim, the base ring has an axially extending, thin, slightly flexible lip having a clearance or interference fit with the inner member. The pressure in the annular space acts to press the deformable lip into fluid-tight sealing engagement with the inner member. The ring seal, including the base ring and lip, is preferably formed of metal.
