A. Forssberg-2 (Revision) MECHANICAL SEAL ABSTRACT The two seal rings in a mechanical seal, one stationary and one rotary are pressed towards each other by help of a spring. In order to lubricate and cool the sealing surface between the two rings, an increased circulation of lubricant/cooling medium is provided within the area of the sealing surface by means of a cup which surrounds the shaft that is designed to operate as a centrifugal pump.
