MECHANICAL SEALS FOR USE WITH SLURRY PUMPS ABSTRACT A mechanical seal assembly, especially for use in a slurry pump in which the seal rings (24,26,92, 94) are resiliently urged into sealing relation by at least one elastomeric assembly (37,97,99) loaded in shear. The preferred embodiment is constructed as a cartridge (Fig. 1) for installation and removal as a unit but it may also be constructed (Fig. 7) for instal- lation in situ.
