A mechanical shaft seal to give a tight seal between relatively rotating machine parts and prevent the escape of particulate material into the atmosphere or into the mechanical components of the housing under adverse operating conditions. The seal provides a grease-filled chamber that prevents solid particles from reaching the main seal by migration within the mechanical shaft seal.

Il s'agit d'un joint mécanique d'arbre qui permet d'obtenir un joint étanche entre des pièces de machine en mouvement rotatif relatif et qui empêche la fuite de particules dans l'atmosphère, ou dans les pièces mécaniques du carter dans des conditions de fonctionnement défavorables. Le joint présente une cavité remplie de graisse qui empêche les particules solides d'atteindre le joint principal par déplacement dans le joint mécanique de l'arbre.
