ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to mechanical trans- missions for linear movements from a driving devicd (20) to an object (21) by means of a bendable transmission agent (23, 40, 43) with both pushing and pulling capa- bility. In a traversing gear according to the invention, said transmission agent is a close-lapped single or double spiral, with such a coil diameter and wire thick- ness that it, when unsupported, is not bent sideways by the compressive force used. Guiding is only needed in bends and can be provided outside the spiral (23, 40) by a guiding cavity (29) (Figure 2) or inside the spiral by a guiding rod (35) (Figure 3). The surfaces of the guides are preferably coated with teflon.
