ABSTRACT A mechanical wheel lift assembly for use on a towing vehicle, for engaging and lifting the wheels of a car to be towed, which comprises means for mounting and pivotally securing a boom between sides of an undercarriage of the towing vehicle and at a point forward of the rear axle of the vehicle; means for supporting the boom in an upper towing or a storage position; the shape of the boom and the positioning of the means for supporting the boom being such that suitable vehicle undercarriage and ground clearance is provided in any position of the boom; means for raising and lowering the boom for loading, towing or storage; and a pivoting member secured to the end of the boom on which a tow bar assembly is rotatably mounted. This assembly is simple, reliable and inexpensive. It is very flexible and may be used on both one ton and three-quarter ton towing vehicles. It may be used to tow safely any type of disabled vehicle, regardless of nose length or vehicle weight.
