The digital broadband delivery system (100) includes a headend controller (102) that receives network messages from the plurality of devices (ie. a sub- distribution network (160), node (106) and subscribers (108) ) and assigns transport stream identifiers (150 and 166) in the network . The plurality of devices ( (160), (106), and (108) ) are updated to respond to a first message by sending a network message to the controller (102), and the devices ( (160), (106), and (108) ) are adapted to monitor their received transport stream and respond to changes by sending a second network message to the controller (102). The controller (102) uses the received network messages to generate the transport stream map.
