A parallel mechanism for orienting an end member utilizes a four-bar linage wherein three joints are actuated. Two of the actuators are mounted at the ends of the base-link to control two respective oriented links; and one of the actuators is positioned at the joint between one of the oriented links and the elevated link that joins the upper ends of the two oriented links. Two opposed joints in the mechanism are spherical, and the other two opposed joints are at least cylindrical and preferably revolute. The elevated actuator is located to cause rotation of the elevated link which serves as the end member at the elevated spherical joint.
