The invention relates to a mechanism for the fast opening and closing of a sectional overhead garage door; it comprises a motor driven shaft on which is mounted a drum. A coil is used between the motor and the shaft to reduce the load impact exerted as a result of the motor driving the shaft at higher than normal speed. On the drum is mounted a cable for fast lifting the door and for fast closing the door.
