ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a novel loading and unloading apparatus for use by wheelchair confined and other disabled passengers. One embodiment of the invention makes provision for loading and unloading such passengers at en- trances to existing passenger carrying vehicles. A horizon- tal loading platform is pivotally connected to a pair of spaced apart and opposed linkage means positioned on either side thereof and which are in turn pivotally connected to the passenger vehicle. Each linkage means comprises five linkage sections which are so arranged as to define two co- operating parallelograms having one common side which is parallel to the loading platform. An offset arm forms part of each inboard linkage connected to the vehicle and to each said arm a thrust link is pivotally connected and is further extended to a point of pivotal connection with its complimen- tary outboard linkage from which the loading platform is suspended. The length of the offset arms and of the thrust links as well as the location of the pivotal connection of the thrust links to said outboard linkages control the path of movement of the loading platform. Electrically, pneumat- ically or hydraulically powered motive means is utilized in raising and lowering the loading platform along said con- trolled path between vehicle floor elevation inboard template line of vehicle and ground elevation outboard template line of vehicle.
