ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a roof hatch cover that incorporates protective armour and can be pivoted about a horizontal and about a vertical axis. The present invention provides an armoured roof hatch cover that can be opened manually from within the turret and pivoted about a horizontal axis to a released position, rotated about a vertical axis and then lowered to a further position where the hatch is secured in a locked-open configuration. The hatch cover includes a traversing system and a control system that is connected with a raising system. The control system controls the opening and closing pivoting movement of the roof hatch cover by form fit engagement with the raising system. The control system allows the roof hatch cover to be secured in various open positions including preferably, a release position and a locked-open position that is located on the roof of the tank turret.
