An apparatus for selecting telephone service types on a subscriber line in response to a called number of a telephone call on the subscriber line, the called number including a number plan area code and a central office code. The apparatus includes a service switching point having subscriber line termination equipment for terminating the subscriber telephone line. The subscriber line termination equipment has a called number buffer for receiving and storing a called telephone number from the subscriber telephone line in response to the telephone call on the subscriber telephone line. The apparatus further includes a processor in communication with the called number buffer and programmed to read the numbering plan area code from the called number buffer and to determine whether or not the numbering plan area code meets a first criteria, to process the call according to a first call model associated with a first telephone service type, when the numbering plan area code meets the first criteria, to terminate processing according to the first call model when at least a portion of the numbering plan area code and at least a portion of the central office code of the called number meet a second criteria, to assign a dummy routing code to the call, the dummy routing code being operable to control call processing under a second call model associated with a second telephone service type, and to process the call according to the second call model.
L'invention est un appareil servant à sélectionner des types de service téléphonique sur une ligne d'abonné en réponse à un numéro de téléphone composé sur cette ligne d'abonné, ce numéro composé comportant un code régional et un indicatif de central. L'appareil de l'invention contient un point de commutation de services doté d'un matériel de terminaison de ligne d'abonné. Ce matériel de terminaison de ligne d'abonné utilise un tampon à numéros composés qui sert à recevoir et à stocker les numéros de téléphone composés transmis par la ligne téléphonique d'abonné en réponse à l'appel téléphonique transmis sur cette ligne. L'appareil de l'invention comprend de plus un processeur qui est en communication avec le tampon à numéros composés et est programmé pour extraire le code régional de ce tampon et déterminer si ce code régional satisfait à un premier critère, afin de traiter l'appel selon un premier modèle d'appel associé à un premier type de service téléphonique quand le code régional satisfait à ce premier critère, à mettre fin au traitement selon ce premier modèle d'appel quand une partie au moins du code régional et une partie au moins de l'indicatif de central du numéro composé satisfont à un second critère, à affecter à l'appel un code d'acheminement fictif servant à contrôler le traitement de l'appel selon un second modèle d'appel associé avec un second type de service téléphonique, et à traiter l'appel selon ce second modèle d'appel.
