The present invention relates to the novel of culture media compositions, said compositions having modified Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal culture medium with varied concentrations of plant hormones and other additives, leading to extraordinarily faster in vitro propagation of Swertia Chirata, an endangered medicinal plant species, wherein axillary buds and shoot apices of the said plant are used to achieve the same, and a method forin vitro propagation of Swertia Chirata.
