Disclosed is a method and a medical device comprising a bio-compatible polymeric product with a layered structure comprising at least one upper layer of a first polymeric component, a middle layer of a second polymeric component, and at least one lower layer of a third polymeric component, wherein the chain length of the first polymeric component and the third polymeric component is longer than the chain length of the second polymeric component. The medical device combines the features of strength, durability and bio-compatibility as well as it has resistance to tear and wear and has a good compressibility. A preferred design of the medical device is a cup produced from a core or film of LDPE surrounded by two layers of UHMWPE fabric. The medical device can be used as implants in mammals, especially as artificial cartilage within joints to secure mobility of the joint.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif médical comprenant un produit polymère biocompatible doté d'une structure en couches qui comprend au moins une couche supérieure faite d'un premier composant polymère, une couche centrale fait d'un deuxième composant polymère, et au moins une couche inférieure faite d'un troisième composant polymère. La longueur de chaîne du premier et du troisième composant polymère est plus importante que celle du deuxième composant polymère. Le dispositif médical possède des caractéristiques de robustesse, de longévité et de biocompatibilité alliées à une résistance à la détérioration et à l'usure et à une bonne compressibilité. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, le dispositif médical se présente sous la forme d'une coupe fait d'un noyau ou d'un film de polyéthylène basse densité (PEbd) enrobé dans deux couches de tissu en polyéthylène de masse moléculaire très élevée (PEhpm). Ce dispositif médical peut être utilisé comme implants chez des mammifères, en particulier comme cartilage artificiel assurant la mobilité d'une articulation à l'intérieur de laquelle il est monté.
