The invention pertains to coated medical devices, such as stents and balloon catheters, for delivering a biologically active material to body tissue of a patient. The medical device has a coating layer comprising a biocompatible polymer, non-polymer material, or biologically active material disposed on its surface, and at least one structural element embedded within the coating layer. The structural elements reduce the compressibility of the coating layer. The structural element may be any shape or configuration. A biologically active material may be dispersed within the coating layer or structural elements. Methods for making such medical devices are also disclosed.
L'invention concerne des dispositifs médicaux à revêtement, tels que des stents et des cathéters à ballonnet, permettant de distribuer un matériau biologiquement actif au tissu corporel d'un patient. Ledit dispositif comprend une couche de revêtement pourvue d'un polymère biocompatible, un matériau non polymère ou un matériau biologiquement actif disposé sur sa surface, et au moins un élément structurel incorporé au sein de ladite couche. Lesdits éléments structurels permettent de réduire la compressibilité de la couche de revêtement. L'élément structurel peut être une forme ou une configuration quelconque. Un matériau biologiquement actif peut être dispersé à l'intérieur de la couche de revêtement ou des éléments structurels. L'invention concerne également des procédés de production de ces dispositifs médicaux.
